Bitcoin and Ethereum are both cryptocurrencies. However, they differ in the way they are mined, how transactions are verified and what their application is.

Ethereum is a decentralized platform that runs smart contracts on blockchain. It provides a cryptocurrency called Ether which is used for payments on the Ethereum network.

Bitcoin is a digital currency that uses peer-to-peer technology to operate with no central authority or banks; managing transactions and the issuing of bitcoins is carried out collectively by the network. Bitcoin can also be used as an investment, although it has been extremely volatile and not suitable for most investors.
